Access to Resources in English when Food Insecurity Strikes
In a crisis, a number of local resources are available for anyone experiencing food insecurity. Beyond that, there are websites that deal honestly with the reality of tight budgets and cooking on very little.
For Albertans experiencing food insecurity, local resources such as community and emergency food programs are a place to start when looking for help.
- **211 Alberta:** Call 211, text INFO to 211, or chat online to find local food hampers, free meals, and support services.
- **Food Banks Alberta:** Access network member food banks across cities, towns, and rural areas for emergency food supplies.
- CANAVUA: Focused on providing affordable housing, helping to reduce social, economic and community disadvantage, and help alleviate food insecurity across vulnerable populations.
- **Fresh Routes** Access low-cost mobile grocery programs.
- Other local community initiatives also offer discounted produce.
Government financial support can be accessed through the following resources:

- **Emergency Income Support:** Apply online through MyAlberta Emergency Benefits or call the 24/7 emergency line at 1-866-644-5135 for urgent food assistance via e-transfer.
- Tax Filing: File annual tax returns, even with zero income, to automatically unlock federal and provincial child and low-income benefit programs.
